Becoming flexible involves maximizing your range of motion and stability. Flexibility training helps to increase blood flow and it also reduces the risk of potential injuries. There are three traditional stretching exercises that will help improve flexibility: static, dynamic, and isometric/PNF. These techniques should be incorporated into your workout routine.

The most common form of stretching is known as static stretching. It is taught to children in gym class and refers to the practice of stretching to your maximum capacity, holding for a brief period of time, and then releasing. Static stretches help improve circulation and prepares your muscles for an upcoming workout.

Dynamic stretching involves using weights, which can also include your body weight as a factor. This type of stretching method can be harmful as it is possible to tear muscles or tendons if proper care is not exercised. An example could be lunges, where you use your body’s weight to stretch the muscles in the leg.

Isometric/ PNF (Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation) is just a ten dollar name for putting tension on your muscles and then relaxing. This type of stretching best prepares you for heavy exercise. This method frequently uses a partner to help create tension on the targeted muscle group. The most common example is lying on your back with one leg in the air. The partner will push your leg towards your body until it causes tension on your hamstring. You then try to push your leg back down as your partner provides resistance. When a partner is not available you can use exercise ropes/ cords that stretch and can provide resistance.

No matter how you exercise, flexibility training should become a natural part of your routine. It helps to protect the muscles and joints during physical fitness activities and can maximize your performance levels.

Regular vigorous exercise can provide the basis for good health and wellness. In the past health was determined by the absence of disease or illness. Today we define health in terms of physical, mental and emotional wellness. The health, fitness, and medical experts now regard physical activity, practiced on a regular basis, as essential for achieving and maintaining good health.

Studies confirm that exercise will not only help you to live longer but enable you to live life at your fullest potential. But, being physically strong and fit is more than striving to live longer, it is striving to live better. If a proper exercise program helps you maintain good physical appearance, have more energy, sleep better, distress ones self, improve performance at a favorite sport or pastime and not have to worry about weight gain isn’t it worth it?

Ponder the fitness truths listed below as this is what physical strength and fitness is all about. Being fit is about living every day to your fullest capacity not just getting by.
This goal is within the reach of anyone who educates themselves regarding strength and fitness.

Your body was made to be very active.
Your body cannot handle the stress of sitting most of the day.
Your body thrives on vigorous activity.
You need to use energy to gain more energy.
A physically fit body is better able to function at its full potential.
Strong and fit people tend to feel really good about themselves.

Most people would like to be strong and fit maybe not for the sake of appearance, but surely so that they can feel better and live longer. Unfortunately, many fall prey to mental obstacles that can prevent and get in the way of getting the exercise we need.

The first and most important obstacle to conquer if you want to improve your health and fitness is thinking of exercise as an option. Devoting a small portion of each day to physical fitness is a must, not an option or a luxury.

If you don’t make time to maintain strength and fitness the consequences may not be obvious in the short term. It could be tempting to engage in wishful thinking: “If I don’t work out, no one will know the difference.” That may be true – for a while.

It takes time, years, even decades for a lack of physical activity to take its toll on our bodies. But the consequences will surely come: weight gain, lack of energy, loss of strength, loss of self esteem, daily tasks will start to become harder. Your career will suffer, your bones will become weaker and more brittle, your posture will take on an aged look, your heart and lungs will grow weaker, and you will become more prone to nasty diseases that could well shorten your life.

All too often, we go through life, stumbling along down the road of good intentions. We intend to get in that gym workout today. Or, we may intend to begin an exercise program. But intentions, alone, are not enough we need to get started and continue to do it with consistency. Consistency with an exercise program helps it become a habit – a normal part of your everyday life

You will find yourself looking forward to having that time to yourself…time to think, time to center yourself after the busyness of the day, time to release stress and time to recharge the batteries. In the long run, it’s all up to you and you have the power to make yourself look better, be healthier and live longer.
Watch the video related to Physical Fitness

Regular physical activity offers numerous benefits to your overall health. Physical fitness plays a major role in the proper function of your body and your mind. When you exercise on a regular basis, you feel energized, alert, and fit. Here are a few of the benefits you will be reaping by incorporating fitness into your daily schedule.

The first benefit of physical fitness is warding off disease. Physical activity has been known to slow down or prevent numerous diseases, such as: high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, arthritis, osteoporosis, and heart disease. On top of its disease fighting abilities, a regular fitness regimen can help you slow down the aging process. When you exercise, your joints and your muscles become stronger and more flexible, which reduces your chances of developing numerous age related ailments.

The second benefit of physical activity is stress reduction. Fitness is a great distraction from our every day troubles and it gives us a chance to rid our bodies of excess energy which might otherwise increase stress levels. The third benefit of regular physical activity is weight maintenance. Exercise has always been a major factor for those who wish to lose weight. Even a person who is taking the best diet pills and consuming the healthiest diet can benefit from physical fitness. Some people swear by the results they get from regular physical activity along with the all natural appetite suppressant known as hoodia. Aside from aiding with weight loss, regular exercise also boosts your brain power. By increasing your energy levels you increase the serotonin in your brain, this in return leads to improved mental clarity. So the next time you find yourself doubting what physical fitness can do for you, read over this article and imagine all of the health benefits you could be gaining right now.

It always amazes me that FITNESS is a multi-billion dollar industry… Yet a solid, concise and universal definition of fitness is hard to nail down.

Just ask someone participating in a physical fitness program, or even someone in the fitness industry for that matter, to give you a clear definition of fitness.

You will most likely be met with the “deer caught in the headlights” stare accompanied by nonsensical stammering.

If you do get an answer, it will most likely be slanted toward the specific abilities of the person asked.

For example…

A marathon runner will define fitness in terms of muscular and cardiorespiratory endurance… A power-lifter will define fitness in terms of absolute strength… A bodybuilder will define fitness in terms of muscle size and definition… etc.

But the overwhelming majority of people participating in a physical fitness program are not professional athletes concerned with the improvement of only one physical ability.

Therefore, basing your definition of fitness on one specific physical skill does not lead to a universal definition of fitness.

The fact is, your physical fitness success will be determined by your definition of fitness… So take some time to make sure you have a clear fitness definition.

Once you see how much a clear definition of fitness can improve your physical training, you will wonder how you ever physically trained in the past without one.

So what would a universal definition of fitness be for someone who wanted to physically train to become a better, all-around human being?

I’m glad you asked… but let’s take it step by step.

Here is a GOOD Fitness Definition…

The degree of competence and skill to perform in ALL the physical abilities of cardiorespiratory endurance, strength, flexibility, power, speed, coordination, agility, balance, accuracy and toughness.

I can already hear the criticism from the athletic crowd… You cannot “maximize” the performance of all the physical abilities in this fitness definition at the same time.

And they are absolutely right!

Fitness is not about the “maximization” of one particular physical skill at one particular point in time, but rather the “optimization” of all physical skills at any given time.

Fitness is a compromise of all the different physical skills that make up human activity.

Look at it this way…

Let’s say all of the physical skills were tested separately.

Some specialized athletes would score very high on some physical skills… and very low on others.

But a person that personified true, universal fitness would score well on all of the physical skills… without necessarily being the best at any one skill.

Here is an EXCELLENT Fitness Definition…

The acceptable and deliberate compromise of competence and ability to perform in ALL the areas of cardiorespiratory endurance, strength, flexibility, power, speed, coordination, agility, balance, accuracy and toughness to produce optimum performance results under the greatest amount of circumstances.

Not only is universal fitness a compromise of all the physical abilities… but it is the over-all ability to integrate all of the physical abilities and flow from one ability to the next in a seamless fashion to successfully complete a task.

So, what would adopting this definition of fitness do for you?

Your physical fitness training program would be assessed according to how well it “optimized” all the physical skills and not just how well it “maximized” one particular skill at the expense of all others.

Basically, structuring your physical training to improve all the physical skills of this fitness definition would enable you to greatly improve over-all physical performance in a wider variety of activities.

Now isn’t that why most of us physically train?

Study this definition of fitness and use it to measure your current physical fitness training program.

How well does it measure up?

If your current workout program is lacking… it is definitely time for a change.

Your fitness success depends on it!

Why choose HSC Physics

HSC Physics can be one of the most rewarding HSC subjects that is widely and commonly available across schools in NSW. HSC Physics tends to appeal to students with an interest for quantitative subjects like mathematics. In fact, if one is to try to define physics, it would be applied 2 unit maths. The mathematics in physics is certainly not difficult, but the problems in Physics are structured in terms of real-world applications. Therefore students who have a keen interest in the physical world and the theory behind its behavior are advised to take physics.

In terms of scaling, HSC physics has always scaled quite decently. Traditionally and in recent years, physics has had a scaled mean of about 29/50, meaning it scales slightly under HSC Chemistry, English Advanced and Economics. However physics has always scaled significantly better than biology, which is convenient since HSC Physics and Chemistry has always had a synergy about them. They are to a large extent similar courses, both requiring a similar skillset from students who want to do well. However, unlike HSC Chemistry, Physics is less experience-based, as there are less things upon which we need to refer to repeatedly throughout the course. ( For example, in Chemistry, we had to know the common valencies, solubility rules, how to name carbon compounds etc)

Instead, Physics requires more of an ability to imagine things yourself and conduct what we call ‘thought experiments’ in your own mind in order to understand the concepts taught in the course. This is more of a skill rather than a set of knowledge. For example, to gain a solid grasp of Einstein’s theory of special relativity and the associated equations, it is all about your ability to get your head around how time dilation operates in different frames, and in relation to each other. While theory helps and rote-learning the method of applying the equations, this approach is limited in its usefulness since slightly tricky exam questions can easily throw you off.

How to master HSC Physics

To get better at HSC Physics, since many things are very abstract and conceptual (e.g. to understand how an induction motor actually works, or Einstein’s equations of time and mass dilation, or the cause of striation patterns in vacuum tubes), it is a good idea to ask a teacher or tutor as many questions as possible. That means whenever there is some concept that you don’t understand, or even a tiny point within a wider concept, don’t leave it alone. You should ask all questions until you have a concrete understanding of the concept in question before moving on.

A good way is to constantly test your own knowledge by connecting all the related concepts together and seeing if there are any contradictions that a revealed by connecting up what you know. This is because physics is very conceptual in nature, and slightly different to the other sciences (Chemistry and Biology). Physics revolves around understanding abstract concepts, most of which can not be experimentally tested within a school lab, and some concepts can never be properly experimentally tested (e.g. whether the luminiferous aether really exists).

Successful physics students have a great ability to conduct thought experiments. What this involves is essentially testing out an idea in your mind, following physical rules you have learnt, to see whether you arrive at a conclusion that is absurd, or plausible. It’s difficult to truly understand this technique and to what extent we use it when thinking about concepts in Physics, but it is a good habit to always do this in order to verify and test your own understanding.

Good students would also have the ability to unify their understanding of various seemingly unrelated topics. One thing unique about HSC physics as opposed to other HSC sciences is that its topics are all latently linked, and based on a common set of fundamental physical principles. What we mean by ‘latent’ is that these links are not immediately visible, and the ability to draw these links is what separates a student who gets 95+ in their HSC mark, versus a student who doesn’t. For example, the same set of rules apply to forces on a cathode ray as those that are responsible for the motor effect. And it is the same principle (electromagnetic induction) which explains why magnetars (if you do Astrophysics) have such intense magnetic fields. This is the same line of thought that led Sir Isaac Newton to conclude that it is the force of gravity which keeps the Moon in a circular or bit around the Earth.

Different ways of thinking about one concept

For example, think of an induction motor: we are all taught by teachers that such a motor works because the squirrel cage ‘chases’ the spinning magnetic field, citing Lenz’s law. However what if you totally ignore your knowledge about Lenz’s law, can you try to explain how an induction motor works solely by using the right-hand push rule? Well actually you can, because as the magnetic field sweeps past a part of the squirrel cage, that’s like having a current move towards the opposite direction, which imparts a force along the cage onto the positive charge carriers as per the direction of your palm. This dictates the induced current flow, and if you then shift your thumb to point towards this current, you’ll notice the palm now points towards the direction the magnetic field was moving towards. In effect, the cage actually does ‘chase’ the field, however as you can see, we can explain it in terms of first principles rather than rely on sweeping statements like ‘induction motors work because of Lenz’s law’.

Another practical example highlighting the same point is attempting to explain the concept of an event horizon in terms of escape velocity. Without going into too much detail, recall that there is a formula to find escape velocity from a body of mass, and that it is inversely proportional to r, the distance from the centre of that mass. For black holes, since mass is all focused within a singularity of infinite density, there comes a point where r is sufficiently small that escape velocity reaches, then exceeds c, the speed of light. At the point where r makes the escape velocity exactly equal to the speed of light, this defines the boundary of the event horizon, beyond which no information can escape. If we further decrease r (i.e. get closer to the black hole), by then the calculated escape velocity exceeds c, and from Einstein’s mass dilation equations, this could never physically be achieved. Therefore this is a more practical and unified way of thinking about the concept of black holes and why they have an event horizon.

As a student aiming for 95+ (HSC aligned mark) in HSC Physics, without a doubt, your depth of knowledge, and the extent of drawing connections between your conceptual understanding, will determine whether you will reach your goal of 95+. That is, your ability to unify your understanding of the various topics of physics will help you significantly when it comes to showing depth in your understanding in exam responses.

Tomorrows the physical exams and at Ouran Academy, the hormones are raging. Of course, this almost certainly spells trouble for anyone who spends her days in disguise.
Help answer the question about physicals
How much do school physicals cost in Clearwater Florida? I don't currently have insurance since I have moved.
My son will be starting school this fall and the health department does not do physicals for school. They referred me to walk in clinics but were not sure how much they cost. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
