Treatments for mesothelioma depends on the stage of cancer, the specific part being affected, the overall size of the area affected, how long one has the problem of mesothelioma, the cancer cells look under a microscope and a factor of patient age. These are the factors considered when choosing a treatment option. Treatments for mesothelioma include surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Surgery: There are two types of surgeries available one is aggressive surgery and another called palliative procedures. Aggressive surgery is done through a process called extra pleural pneumonectomy, in which the pleural lung, diaphragm and pericardium are removed. Chances are that the heart and lungs have been damaged by radiation. Low doses of radiation is one solution to overcome some of this critical issue.
