Can a Christian Practice Yoga or Yoga Meditation?

Watch the video related to Physical Fitness

in the mind and heart. If one practices physical posture without the higher goals, it can hardly be called Yoga. It may be physical fitness, but it is no more Yoga than drinking wine and eating bread alone are Christianity. The point of this video is utterly simple. It is in support of Christians who would not want their communion practices with bread and wine denigrated. Practitioners of authentic Yoga also do not want their practices denigrated. Yoga is simply not a physical fitness program …

Is a 261 on the Marine physical fitness test good?
I scored a 261 on the physical fitness test yesterday and I thought that it was pretty good. Does it increase my chances of getting in to OCS?

Depends. Are you chanting to some other deity or an earthly power, or just trying to shut off the senses? There is no problem with meditation so long as you are not using it as a form of communication to some other Higher Power. And a dangerous thing about Buddhism and Hinduism is a high emphasis on the Self, that the deity is within you and you are a part of it. Christianity is contrary to this, you must be concerned with others because what you do for others, you do for God, what you do for yourself is just that – only for you.

Of course, as I'm trying to practice Buddhism, I'm not neutral on this.
I did hear that the previous Pope has spoken against the Buddhist meditation postures – Catholics apparently need to kneel. (I'm not sure if this is found anywhere in the Bible or if this is just Catholic dogma.)
At the same time, Christian monks and nuns meditate in their own way, so it cannot be all wrong.

However, I think the church is, and always has been, afraid of people who develop insight and wisdom for themselves, because their findings may not be exactly the same as what is preached in church. In that way, quite a few mystics in the Middle and Dark Ages got themselves into trouble.

So, if you prefer to go merely on blind faith in what the church teaches you, perhaps it is better NOT to try and meditate…

ur going to hell! nah just kidding. i agree with u 100%. i think people who preach really mean well but are misinformed and thier approach can be overbearing. we might forget what people say, or what they do, but we never forget how people make us feel. be nice sounds great but feels even better. peace to u all whether u agree or not.

    is that priest holmes?

  • I don't understand why it would be fair to take the bits from religions that christians have said are going to hell for worshipping false gods ect that they think are "okay" but condemn everything else.

Yoga – Stretching for more than thirty seconds has been proven ineffective. Although worth looking into if you want to gain some flexibility.
Meditation – I'm not certain on the research with this one.
Learn about Chakras – No such thing as a Chakra, take a basic biology class if you want to learn.
Telekinesis -Really? Do I need to explain why this wouldn't work? I'm pretty sure it would break almost all known scientific laws and rules.
Animal Communication -No, it's a form of cold reading and playing to what people want to hear.

I suggest following the link below my video if you want a skeptical analysis of those practices.

  • i’m sur dats priest !

  • The honest ones call themselves Buddhist-Christians or new agers — the shallow ones refuse to publicly acknowledge the contribution of Eastern spirituality to their lives and just go by their Christian / Abrahamic labels while still privately gaining most of their spiritual growth by practicing yoga, meditation, in some cases even tai chi and martial arts. I met an older Christian who says he lives by Buddhist philosophies & meditation and rarely attends Church but still calls himself a christian. However the trend is shifting and its cooler today to be a Buddhist or into self help/ spirituality than the dogma of the Abrahamic faiths. I've seen many polls where Buddhism is seen as the coolest religion in the west and while Islam came last and Xtrainity came 2nd last.

Edit: Also yes many Hindu Brahmins were top supporters of Buddhism and Hindus and Buddhists got along so well under Ashoka and even at Nalanda. But when the Muslims invaded India that is when many Hindus joined them thinking they would phase out the Buddhists who were against the caste system. Thats what I was referring to.

Edit: Can you email me the most important areas of Hinduism for eg I know about the Gita — which parts of the Vedas or other books are the most important? Or just email me your email and we can communicate. Thx

ONLY ABOUT 10-20% OF YOGA IS PHYSICAL THE REST IS MENTAL/SPIRITUAL. ITS ABOUT LEAVING YOUR EGO BEHIND MOVING FORWARD TO STUDY YOURSELF. ITS ABOUT SELF HEALING AND SELF REALIZATION!
WHAT YOU SEE IN THE WEST IS FAR AWAY FROM WHAT YOGA ACTUALL IS ALL ABOUT!
EVERY YOGA "MASTERS" STARTING HIS/HER OWN YOGA "STYLE"…
THE GREATEST JOKE, THEY HAVE EVEN PATENDED 150 YOGA POSTURES IN USA, UK AND OTHER COUNTRIES!!!
ATLAST… INDIAN GOVERNMENT NOW HAS TAKEN STEP TO PROTECT THIS INDIAN CULTURAL HERITAGE ALONG WITH AYURVEDA ETC AND PRESERVE FOR THE MANKIND TO BE USED BY EVERYONE AND MISUSED BY NONE.

Zero transfer to the field…except, maybe, for proprioception (ankle)

  • Rose Tyler says:

Some have issues with anything that is new or different or misunderstood. Religions that suggest you are your own god or goddess rankle many christians. Yoga for the sake of stretching is a very limited EXPOSURE. As long as yo use it on the physical plane you should be fine. you may not be ready for deeper involvement but that is OK.
