Acne.org Benzoyl Peroxide: How-To

Benzoyl peroxide is the main ingredient used in products specialized in treating acne. For years, dermatologists have been recommending this ingredient in acne wash to prevent bacteria from irritating the skin and spreading. The main goal of benzoyl peroxide as an acne wash is to reduce pimples in the face and body, prevent clogged pores and keep skin smooth and healthy.

Although this is one of the most effective solutions in treating acne, it is only recommended for short-term use since benzoyl peroxide is a highly potent substance and could cause adverse reactions such as redness, dry skin tenderness, itchiness and swelling. These side effects, however, will disappear within a day or two. If you’re looking for the best benzoyl peroxide acne wash that will not yield adverse effects, here are the top three products both consumers and dermatologists recommend.

Clean & Clear Persa-Gel 10, Maximum Strength – A topical solution made by Johnson & Johnson, the Clean & Clear Persa Gel contains 10% active benzoyl peroxide, which acts to control mild to moderate acne conditions. Unlike most benzoyl peroxide acne washes, the Persa-Gel comes in a gel form to glide into skin more smoothly. It is perfect for spot treatments on the face, back, chest or other areas prone to those annoying breakouts. Best of all, everyone can buy this acne wash even without a prescription.

Neutrogena On-the-Spot Acne Treatment – With only 2.5% benzoyl peroxide, Neutrogena’s On-the-Spot Acne Treatment has just enough pimple-fighting ingredients to clear up blemishes, but avoid making your skin dry, red or irritated. Although this acne wash can brutally keep acne away, it is extremely gentle to the skin. It contains a mixture of natural, oil-absorbing ingredients that keep skin feeling and looking fresh.

Clearasil Ultra Vanishing Acne Treatment Cream – Another benzoyl peroxide acne wash with a 10% solution which is specially made with acne-fighting solution to fight acne-causing bacteria faster. With Clearasil’s benzoyl peroxide acne wash, you can see your skin clear up in just three to four days, leaving your face, back, chest and body smooth and exfoliated.

When you’re tired of testing benzoyl peroxide acne wash solutions that leave your skin more irritated, dry, red and swollen, it is best to choose clinically proven treatments with just the safe amount of benzoyl peroxide. When it comes to keeping your face and body blemish-free, trust only dermatologist-recommended products that can truly make your skin problems go away for good.

It is okay to use benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid acne medication together, in low "doses". I used the same continuous control acne cleanser that you do, and my face got really irritated and red and blotchy. you might want to use a more gentle acne cleanser. I have read in many magazines that using both, one in the morning and one at night, is good to combat acne. Hope I helped!

The 4 main ingredients that are used for acne are: benzoyl peroxide (up to 20%); 2. salicylic acid 3. retinoids 4. sulfur. Then a doc can prescribe antibiotics and other modalities. Experiment with the sulfurs and the salicylates. You can also combine them with each other. STop if you experience irritation, peeling, excessive dryness etc.

I've been in that situation and there is really nothing you can do about it. There are things you can do to try to reduce the blemishes and get rid of acne/pimples temporarily but you will always be finding yourself cleaning your face or your body depending on where it's at.

I mean of course your acne should go away eventually but for some this is the case their whole life.

I'm 29 years old and have been suffering from these little pests since I was a teenager. I tried all sorts of face washes from the local grocery store and what not, but nothing seemed to work. If anything it would just make my skin dry and itchy.

Literally the best acne face wash I've ever used has been this stuff called clearpores. It has got rid of the acne to quickest and has been a success ever since I got it. It's unique cause of it's herbal supplement you take a long with it that helps your skin from the inside out. I saved money on it at skincleansingsystem.com at the time which was helpful.

You should really look into this stuff and if you can to assure the best results, get the 3 month supply because if it doesn't work it will still save you butt on the return policy.

Well good luck and best wishes.

As long as you need it for to stay clear, ask your doctor or dermatologist if you are unsure.

  • dee b says:

To keep your acene away you should use neurogena facel srub and you should also keep your face moisterised because it will make it soft and repair the damage.

  • stev says:

Brevoxyl is benzoyl peroxide in prescription form.

If your container says, Brevoxyl-4, it's because it's 4% more concentrated in benzoyl peroxide than the regular benzoyl peroxide you buy over the counter.

  • Brandon says:

i've been told it can, may take many years, keep tryin, lol
